Tourentipp Maifeld-Radweg: Geschichtsträchtig und genüsslich
Bassenheim
On the Maifeld cycle path from Bassenheim to Mayen
The starting point is the Maifeld cycle path in Bassenheim. From here you cycle through the green tunnel of cherry trees, oaks and birches in the shade, especially in warm weather. From time to time, there are wonderful views of the Eastern Eifel and the volcanic cones, which are now peacefully slumbering.
One highlight is certainly the heart-shaped treasure bench, which tempts you to take photos.
Once you arrive in Kerben, you can take a short break, especially if you have little cyclists with you: The sensory trail beckons here and shortly afterwards you slide straight off the cycle path onto the playground with climbing wall. Past the Adams farm store and fields of rapeseed, asparagus and grain, you reach the town of Polch with the old railroad station. You can also take a break here or enjoy an ice cream or coffee in town.
The route divides in Polch and continues towards Mayen. The stations have already given off a little railroad flair, but now it's time to get down to business! Lights on: two tunnels make you shiver a little and you can try out whether you can puff like an old locomotive. And then you can already see it: the Nette viaduct, built from natural stone, towers over the Nettetal valley! From here, it's easy cycling on to the Eifel town of Mayen. Here it is worth making a detour to the market square before starting the return journey. In addition to the old railroad stations, you can also stock up on provisions in the farm store along the way.
