Münstermaifeld

The association of tour guides for Münstermaifeld invites you:

Walk in the footsteps of Jewish life

Jews have been proven to be settled in Münstermaifeld since the 13th century. During this time, the establishment of a community with a cemetery and synagogue must have also taken place. With the adoption of fixed family names in 1808, we can trace the fate of the Bender, Diewald, Kaufmann, Marx, and Oster families for over 130 years until the destruction of Jewish life in Münstermaifeld. On November 10, 1938, the synagogue was destroyed down to the outer walls. Flight, displacement, and deportation to the extermination camps ended the coexistence of Jews and Christians in the city in 1942. Up until 1933, the Jewish families could perceive themselves as fellow citizens in neighborly connection and with participation in the public life of the city, feeling at home in Münstermaifeld.
