Tourentipp Maifeld-Radweg: Natur und Kultur
Kerben
On the Maifeld cycle path from Kerben to Münstermaifeld
The starting point is the old train station in Kerben. From there, you follow the cycle path straight ahead, and after just a few meters you can take your first short break. Here, a small sensory trail beckons you to discover the treasure within yourself. "It's just like the old days", parents will laugh at the sight of the "canned telephone" and the little ones will quickly take off their shoes to test the barefoot path (from May 2025). Shortly afterwards, you slide directly from the cycle path onto the playground with climbing wall.
The route then continues along fields to Polch. If you have forgotten provisions, you can pick up some fruit at the Adams farm store or grab a few cookies at the Griesson de Beukelaer factory outlet. The route continues: sculptures made by artists can be discovered along the way. A playground with a small train at the old railroad station in Polch can be used for a short break.
The old railroad line now leads first through and then along the edge of Polch. You can see houses on the left and the fields of the Maifeld on the right. You cycle between shady trees as if through a green tunnel and reach Mertloch after a few kilometers. It's worth taking a longer break here: a water playground, large slide, playground with swings and willow tepees, a biotope with an insect hotel and, of course, a few picnic areas. There's ice cream, coffee or something "warm" in the track hut.
There are information boards where you can find out about the course of the year in agriculture and what is grown on the Maifeld. One place further on, in Naunheim, it's all about agriculture again: next to a grain climbing frame, an information board explains what the sugar beet can do while it is growing in the field.
You now have to pedal a little to reach the town on the hill: Münstermaifeld. Here you can see the fields again and again, often a tractor at work. And then the collegiate church peeps out and indicates the destination. In Münstermaifeld, you can get an insight into field work around 100 years ago!
