Where the Eifel low mountain range gives way to the Moselle Valley lies the Maifeld Plateau—a landscape quite distinct from its neighbors: Vast, fertile fields cover the gently rolling hills like a patchwork quilt, interrupted only occasionally by hedgerows and small villages and surrounded by the deeply carved, densely forested valleys of the Elzbach and Nette.

This is where a hiker’s dreams come true: a hike along one of the three “Traumpfade” trails is sure to set a hiker’s heart racing! Passing Eltz Castle or Pyrmont Castle, with sweeping views over rolling fields or shady stretches through the forest. If you’d rather not hike for too long, choose one of the two “Traumpfädchen” (Dream Trails). They’re just as beautiful, but a bit shorter.

Picnic areas, old train stations with inviting beer gardens, plenty of playgrounds, and a water playground make a trip here an adventure for the whole family! At interactive stations dedicated to agriculture and regional products, you’ll learn a thing or two along the way.
